VOB file into FCP

Just ripped a chapter from a DVD I own and want to put this file into FCP to play around with it. Ripped the chapter using Mac the Ripper.

VOBs are just MPEGs. Convert it using MPEG Streamclip (a free download, awesome proggie) to DV or Quicktime. Easily done.

    Get it here:

Thanks for the info. One step closer. Streamclip says that I need the MPEG-2 player for quicktime ($20.00 at the Apple website)

once the MPEG-2 player was acquired, streamclip works, quite smoothly in fact.

So after using Mpeg stream clip to export a section as a Qtime.mov, I imported it into FCP to fiddle with. The audio is fine, but the video needs to be rendered. Is there a way to change the settings on the sequence to match those of the clip so that not rendering is required?

You need to change your Easy Setup settings (Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup) to match your source footage before you import anything into the timeline. Otherwise you'll always need to render it first.

And for that you might wish to go back and export the footage from Streamclip as DV NTSC, which is the first Easy Setup option.
